Tina Bankovic
Capacity Development Specialist
tina.bankovic@weareAurelia.ca

Growing up in Toronto, Ontario, Tina always had a passion for travel and exploring new places. She came to Newfoundland & Labrador in 2014 on one of her journeys “for a few weeks” but fell in love with the ocean, the land, and the newfound calm in her soul – and never left!
Tina is a social justice advocate with a special passion for bridging cultures and promoting accessibility. She holds degrees in Gender Studies and Professional Writing & Communication (University of Toronto) and in Social Work (Memorial University of Newfoundland). She comes to the Capacity Development Specialist role with years of mentorship experience in a variety of areas: she has coordinated volunteer programs for local and national organizations; taught English to teens and adults in Toronto, Montreal and Japan; and coached numerous aspiring writers in how to present big ideas in plain language. She’s also done some completely random jobs, like transcribing cooking competitions and organizing kitten yoga fundraisers. Before joining the Aurelia team, she worked in the St. John’s housing & homelessness sector, providing support to (and sharing laughs, tears and profound conversations with) people in the province’s shelter system. She approaches all of her work with warmth, optimism, curiosity and a commitment to supporting others in finding and using their expertise.
When Tina isn’t working, you can find her hiking, watching a moonrise, trying to solve an escape room (or designing her own), crosswording or puzzling, taking road trips with her friends and human family members or snuggling up with her feline ones.
