Katie Hayward is a townie, “for whom the bay tolls.” Although born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, the itch to get out of the city and into the woods never fades. She prides herself on being a lifelong student - whether in a classroom or learning through experience and mentorship.
Katie graduated from Memorial University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Behavioural Neuroscience and is working towards her Master’s in Counselling Psychology. After a decade in the animal and research field, she realized her dream of becoming a veterinarian was no longer appealing. In the interim, she became a certified instructor for a local company. Facilitating courses around the island in Safe Food Handling (Probe It), and First Aid, CPR, Basic Life Saving, and became a trained Emergency Medical Responder through The Canadian Red Cross.
Opportunity knocked in 2019 to work with a prominent non-profit organization serving the marginalized populations in downtown St. John’s. Working with clients in a case management capacity ignited a fire to be a driving force of social justice, reform and education. Her passion for this line of work lies in the intrinsic value of helping others, relationship building and aspiring for meaningful change. She is incredibly excited to work alongside a team who shares her goals and values.
A self-proclaimed “busy bee” with diverse interests and hobbies - Katie can be found hiking, camping, or at the cabin when not tackling home renovations and art projects. She will likely have headphones on, engulfed in the latest audiobook, podcast or album. She lives in center city of St. John’s with her three cats (Slash, Freddie, and Ozzy) and modern family of unusually close roommates who make life feel like a sitcom.
